Harvell named new North baseball coach

p>By TOM KING Staff Writer NASHUA - The pupil has now become the teacher. Kyle Harvell, who played under former Nashua High School North Baseball coach Will Henderson as recently as five years ago, was named to replace the only head coach the Titans program has ever had. "Ever since Will called me and told me he was stepping down, I was chomping at the bit," said Harvell, who has been on the Titan coaching staff the last four years, the last two as the junior varsity coach. Henderson had to give up the Baseball job, with mixed feelings, to focus on his duties as North's athletic coordinator. With the former coach playing a big role in helping to search for his successor due to his new position, it seemed the focus was on finding someone who would mesh with his philosophy. Who better than someone who played and coached under him? "He's learned a lot," Nashua athletic director Tom Arria said of his 23-year-old new hire. "He's got a very good perspective on high school athletics, he's got the right priorities in mind for our student athletes. "He'll continue our tradition in the program that was built by Will Henderson, and I think that's most important because Will has built one of the best programs this state has seen in awhile." Harvell, who was a senior outfielder for the Titans on the Brad Zapenas-led team that made to the Class L semis for the first time in 2008, played briefly at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. ...
